1. Create a new layer, name it "outline". Draw an outline of the desired hair shape. (C1) | 2. Using the Magic Wand tool, you mark the inside of the outline.
3. Create a second layer, name it "filled". Then fill the selection with a lighter colour (C2) using Flood Fill. | 4. Create a third and fourth layer, name them "light" and "dark". Pick the Draw tool and make sure the options are set on Freehand Line, Stroked, Width 1 and Antialiased.
5. Draw lines from top to ends as the hair would fall. The light strokes (C3) on layer "light", and the dark (C1) on layer "dark". | 6. Make the "filled" layer active, mark it and invert the selection. Make layer "light" active, then press clear to delete everything outside the selection. Repeat this with layer "dark".
7. Now merge layer "filled", "light", and "dark". You should now have the outline and the hair on two separate layers. | 8. Pick the Retouch tool and Burn/Dodge on the hair where you want it to be shadowed/highlighted Retouch Tool settings Hardness: 0 Opacity: Usually somewhere between 10 and 30 Step: 25 Density: 100 |
